    Web and Semantic Web Query Languages

    A number of techniques have been developed to facilitate powerful data retrieval on the Web and Semantic Web. Three categories of Web query languages can be distinguished, according to the format of the data they can retrieve: XML, RDF and Topic Maps. This article introduces the spectrum of languages falling into these categories and summarises their salient aspects. The languages are introduced using common sample data and query types. Key aspects of the query languages considered are stressed in a conclusion

    Non-spherical collapse of an air bubble subjected to a lithotripter pulse

    In order to better understand the contribution of bubble collapse to stone comminution in shockwave lithotripsy, the shockinduced and Rayleigh collapse of a spherical air bubble is investigated using numerical simulations, and the free-field collapse of a cavitation bubble is studied experimentally. In shock-induced collapse near a wall, it is found that the presence of the bubble greatly amplifies the pressure recorded at the stone surface; the functional dependence of the wall pressure on the initial standoff distance and the amplitude are presented. In Rayleigh collapse near a solid surface, the proximity of the wall retards the flow and leads to a more prominent jet. Experiments show that re-entrant jets form in the collapse of cavitation bubbles excited by lithotripter shockwaves in a fashion comparable to previous studies of collapse near a solid surface

    Two polymorphisms facilitate differences in plasticity between two chicken major histocompatibility complex class I proteins

    Major histocompatibility complex class I molecules (MHC I) present peptides to cytotoxic T-cells at the surface of almost all nucleated cells. The function of MHC I molecules is to select high affinity peptides from a large intracellular pool and they are assisted in this process by co-factor molecules, notably tapasin. In contrast to mammals, MHC homozygous chickens express a single MHC I gene locus, termed BF2, which is hypothesised to have co-evolved with the highly polymorphic tapasin within stable haplotypes. The BF2 molecules of the B15 and B19 haplotypes have recently been shown to differ in their interactions with tapasin and in their peptide selection properties. This study investigated whether these observations might be explained by differences in the protein plasticity that is encoded into the MHC I structure by primary sequence polymorphisms. Furthermore, we aimed to demonstrate the utility of a complimentary modelling approach to the understanding of complex experimental data. Combining mechanistic molecular dynamics simulations and the primary sequence based technique of statistical coupling analysis, we show how two of the eight polymorphisms between BF2*15:01 and BF2*19:01 facilitate differences in plasticity. We show that BF2*15:01 is intrinsically more plastic than BF2*19:01, exploring more conformations in the absence of peptide. We identify a protein sector of contiguous residues connecting the membrane bound ?3 domain and the heavy chain peptide binding site. This sector contains two of the eight polymorphic residues. One is residue 22 in the peptide binding domain and the other 220 is in the ?3 domain, a putative tapasin binding site. These observations are in correspondence with the experimentally observed functional differences of these molecules and suggest a mechanism for how modulation of MHC I plasticity by tapasin catalyses peptide selection allosterically

    Comparison of Herbicide Systems for Dark Fire-Cured Tobacco

    Field experiments were conducted at Murray, KY in 2005, 2006, and 2007 to compare dark tobacco tolerance and weed control from various herbicide systems applied prior to transplanting. Herbicide treatments included sulfentrazone at 0.38 lb ai/A (12 oz/A Spartan 4F) applied pretransplant (PT), clomazone at 1 lb ai/A PT (2.67 pt/A Command 3ME), sulfentrazone at 0.38 lb ai/A plus clomazone at 1 lb ai/A PT, pendimethalin at 1.48 lb ai/A (3.6 pt/A Prowl 3.3EC) applied pretransplant incorporated (PTI), pendimethalin at 1.48 lb ai/A PTI followed by sulfentrazone at 0.38 lb ai/A PT, pebulate at 4 lb ai/A PTI (2.67 qt/A Tillam 6-E), napropamide at 2 lb ai/A PTI (4 lb/A Devrinol 50DF), pebulate at 4 lb ai/A plus napropamide at 2 lb ai/A PTI, and a nontreated control. Visual injury to dark tobacco from any herbicide system was considered minor and did not exceed 11% at 3 weeks after application, and was not apparent by 6 weeks after application in any year. Weed species evaluated included annual grasses (primarily large crabgrass and goosegrass), yellow nutsedge, common ragweed, and entireleaf morningglory. Herbicide systems that included pendimethalin or clomazone were most effective against annual grasses evaluated, while herbicide systems that included sulfentrazone were most effective against yellow nutsedge and those that contained clomazone were most effective against common ragweed. Sulfentrazone was most effective against entireleaf morningglory, but control was improved with the addition of clomazone or pendimethalin. Total dark-fired tobacco yield where herbicides were applied ranged from 2,464 to 2,725 lb/A, although lowest total yield, quality grade index, and gross revenue was from tobacco that received pendimethalin only, most likely due to poor control of yellow nutsedge and common ragweed

    In this paper the reliability of the isolation substrate and chip mountdown solder interconnect of power modules under thermal-mechanical loading has been analysed using a numerical modelling approach. The damage indicators such as the peel stress and the accumulated plastic work density in solder interconnect are calculated for a range of geometrical design parameters, and the effects of these parameters on the reliability are studied by using a combination of the finite element analysis (FEA) method and optimisation techniques. The sensitivities of the reliability of the isolation substrate and solder interconnect to the changes of the design parameters are obtained and optimal designs are studied using response surface approximation and gradient optimization metho

    On variable frequency microwave processing of heterogeneous chip-on-board assemblies

    Variable Frequency Microwave (VFM) processing of heterogeneous chip-on-board assemblies is assessed using a multiphysics modelling approach. The Frequency Agile Microwave Oven Bonding System (FAMOBS) is capable of rapidly processing individual packages on a Chip-On-Board (COB) assembly. This enables each package to be processed in an optimal manner, with temperature ramp rate, maximum temperature and process duration tailored to the specific package, a significant benefit in assemblies containing disparate package types. Such heterogeneous assemblies may contain components such as large power modules alongside smaller modules containing low thermal budget materials with highly disparate processing requirements. The analysis of two disparate packages has been assessed numerically to determine the applicability of the dual section microwave system to curing heterogeneous devices and to determine the influence of differing processing requirements of optimal process parameters
